How To Set Up Multiple Accounts In Gmail

Google MailIf you are like most people, you probably have several email addresses, and you are probably using more than 1 email client to check your email. You don’t have to, you can use Gmail to send and receive email messages using any email address, including email from your own domain. Gmail allows you to send an receive email from up to 5 email addresses.

Set up Gmail to receive your domains email

  • Login to your Gmail account, click on “Settings” near the top right corner.
  • Click the “Accounts And Import” tab.
  • Find “Check Mail Using POP3” and click the “Add POP3 Email Account” button.
  • Enter the email address of the account to get mail from.
  • Enter the email accounts settings, Username, Password, and Pop Server. Durham Web Designer clients who purchased web hosting will enter “mail.durhamwebs.com”
  • If you do not know the name of your POP Server contact your web hosting company.
  • There is an option to “Leave a copy of retrieved message on the server”. I highly recommend that you leave this unchecked. If you check this box, a copy of the message will be left on your web hosting company’s server, they will not be deleted. Your mailbox will become full, and you will have to login to your account and delete them all.

Setup Gmail to send messages from your domains email address

  • From your Gmail account, click on “Settings” near the top right corner.
  • Click the “Accounts And Import” tab.
  • Find “Send Mail As” and click on the “Send Mail From Another Address” button.
  • In the ‘Email address’ field, enter your name and your domains email address, click “Next Step”
  • Choose the option to use Gmail’s servers to send your mail (this is easier to set up), click “Next Step”
  • Click the “Send Verification” button, Google will send an email verification message to the email address you setup. You will need to reply to click the link in this message to confirm that you own the email address that you set up.
  • After you have verified that you own the email address, it will appear in the “Send Mail As” section, you can make it your “Default” account to use this account as your default email address. If you do so all messages you compose will be sent from this address by default. You can manually change the “From” address from the drop-down menu in the ‘From:’ field.
  • Also in the “Send Mail As” section, I recommend you check the box to “Reply from the same address the message was sent to”, This will ensure that you don’t reply to an email using a different address, that the one it was sent to.

That’s all there is to it, you should now be able to send and receive messages  directly from your Gmail account.

Take note that Gmail is my personal preference, Hotmail and Yahoo Mail, also allow you to send and receive email from different accounts, the setup procedure is very similar.
