No matter how bad of a web design client you have faced, there is always a worse one right around the corner. Dealing with the various personalities of web design clients is harder than any technical glitch on any computer program, so get yourself ready for everything that you must go through with people in order to have a successful web design business.
The bottom line is this: Most of your web design clients will not know what they want, even if they tell you that they know exactly what they want with a straight face. Invariably, if you give it to them, they will decide on something else, wasting your time with endless revisions, or completely reject what you present to them, even though you are simply copying what they had in mind.

You must also make sure that you are talking to the right person before you begin. There is nothing worse than doing the work of an underling only to find out that the boss hates it.

Sweet infographic! Yeah, the worst is when they say they want something cool. Well my idea of what’s cool and what they think is cool is completely different. In fact, I have done some stuff that was pure junk, but that’s what they wanted. My advice is to ask them for examples of designs like and mimic it. Honestly, I stopped doing sites for people unless they are going to pay a pretty penny. I don’t like going back and forth so much and I can make more money developing sites that generate me money

Hi Garen.
I like your advice, I think that asking your web design clients for examples of sites they like is a really good idea. Most of the sites I build now are template customization. I have pre-designed templates and ask the customer to pick one. I then customize it with their colors, logo etc. I find this works best for me because the client sees exactly what they will receive before it is built.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving your comment.

Larry, the opening paragraph is just so true, not just in web design. A lot of people think they know what they want when they actually don’t. And I agree with Garen, that infographic is just so sweet!

The infographic is humorous because it is true. I try to help my clients know what they want by teaching them that simplicity is better, and that it is more important to have a website that is seach engine friendly and functional. Thanks for commenting Maricel.
