When considering different design elements for your blog, it’s better to choose a simple web design that is minimalist and streamlined. The layout, colors and features of your blog are just as important as the content itself. For example, the colors and graphics of your website shouldn’t be too busy, and they shouldn’t make anything hard to read. The navigation of your blog should always be in the same place on the page, and it should include just a few categories that are easy to understand.
Having a simple web design for your blog doesn’t mean you have a boring or simple site, It just means that your blog doesn’t include too much. An over-designed blog needs to be avoided at all costs. Here are some things to consider.
A Simple Web Design Means Avoiding Complicated, Confusing Designs
A simple web design is the opposite of complicated – and complicated is confusing. The last thing you want to do is confuse or annoy your readers. If something seems too difficult to figure out, they’ll probably just leave rather than spend the time required to figure it out. Simple web designs are intuitive and reader-friendly. They allow a reader to move seamlessly from page to page.
Let Your Content Take Center Stage By Using A Simple Web Design
Your content is the real meat of your blog. No matter what your blog looks like, the content needs to be well-written and valuable to your readers. If you have a complicated, distracting blog design, however, it will significantly impact a reader’s ability to benefit from your content. They’ll be too distracted by a noisy web design, and it will be difficult for them concentrate on and comprehend your content.
Make a Good Impression of Your Brand
The fact is that most people prefer a minimalist or a simple web design. Even if an intricate, involved blog design is artsy, original, intriguing, and well-done, it’s still often unnecessary. People enjoy simple web designs; they’re aesthetically pleasing. Your blog represents your brand directly to your readers. If your blog has a simple web design and high-quality, it will make your brand seem professional and reputable. If your blog is too complicated and poorly designed, it will leave a bad impression of your brand in your readers’ eyes.
Stand Out Against the Competition
The design of your competitors’ blogs is probably something you considered when designing your own, and you clearly want your website to be better than theirs. Because of all the problems that can be associated with a complicated blog design, you have a better chance of standing out against the competition if you have a simple website that is more streamlined than theirs. Remember, it doesn’t have to be boring – just easier to see and use.
Don’t Make More Work for Yourself
If you are designing your own blog, then hopefully you are an experienced web designer. The more design elements you include in your blog, the more time and effort it’s going to take to make everything come together nicely. There are also too many things that could go wrong. If you’re hiring a web designer, they’ll bill you many more hours. Some of the best things about a simple web design for your blog are that it’s easier and less expensive to maintain.

Worthy suggestions. Trying to stand out among the huge number of blogs, we are trying to focus more on making more complicated designs. On the contrary, your post nicely suggest to keep it simple. Almost forgotten, its been time that you can prove unique by being simple.
Thanks for this awesome post.

I’ve been thinking of redesigning mine and making it more simple like this one Lauren. I think it would help my page speed. I think I”m afraid to confuse my royal readers with making a change. If I kept my logo and just changed the background it may help. Like Larry mentioned, minimal themes.

Maybe I am just looking at it from a web designers point of view, but I think that simple designs or minimalist themes are the best choice for someone wanting to change the theme of their blog. I minimal theme will most certainly help your page load speed. Another advantage is they put more emphasis on your content with less distractions for your reader.
I would not be afraid of changing your theme LIsa. You are a successful blogger with loyal readers because you have good content. It is not because of the theme on your blog.
